MMAYE’S 5TH ANNUAL KARAOKE COMPETITION – HOLLYWOOD EDITION

MMAYE’s annual karaoke competition is back!

And this year, it’s bigger than ever!

We’re hosting our very first Hollywood edition of our 5^th annual karaoke competition, Sat. March 17^th 2012 from 6:00-10:00

It will be a red carpet event, filled with our very own paparazzi.

Competition is open to anyone in the ages 12-24, any language is welcome.

As usual, first round contestants can sing any song of their choice, judges will then judge them based on tone, pitch, rhythm, musical style, confidence and charisma and score up to 10 points each.

Round two is for the top five competitors,

They will be required to either:

Sing a song from by the artist of the opposite sex

Sing and dance

Perform with a band or as a duet

Thank you for participating in our 5th annual Karaoke competition. Before you submit your registration, please make sure you have read our event description which is posted on our website and Facebook group. Please write in as much detail as you can, and make sure you provided basic contact information such as name, phone number, email, etc. After registration, please send the accompaniment files to mmaylp@gmail as soon as possible. The files must be named in this format: “Round #, competitor name (song name)?We also recommend you to bring your sound tracks (usb sticks preferred) to the performance, as backups. We do not accept any DVD or CD. The cost of entering our competition is $10; competitors must pay prior to the competition.

But if you’re not interested in competitng, that’s okay! MMAYE is selling tickets for 5 dollar in advance and 7 doller at the door

This is a two-round competition, so please make sure to have two performances in case you make to the final round. Final winners will be decided by the audience group as well as the judges. Badminton Tournament Sign-ups

The MMAYE badminton tournament will be on Saturday March 24, 2012 at 1:00pm at Mentor College.The fee will be $10/person/event OR $15 for two events. The events that are available are girls doubles, boys doubles, and mixed doubles and it will be double elimination. Please bring your own rackets.

Sign-ups close on March 10th, at 11:59pm.

Chinese New Year Event

MMA is hosting their Chinese New Year event at the Gateway Centre for New Canadians, and we’d like to invite you to come!Tickets are only $5, which includes entrance fee, $1 for a 50/50 draw, and $1 for food coupon.

There are many fun activities, performances and great food for all to enjoy. Doors open at 3:00pm.

Winter Party

MMAYE members celebrated a very fun and successful year at their winter party on December 30th, 2011. Many fun games were played, which brought members together and closer. Fannie Cai and Lynda Liu, last year’s president and vice president, visited the group and talked about university and how their MMAYE experiences helped with their applications. Executives and leaders within the group reviewed tasks and goals for the New Year, kicking off an excellent start to a soon-to-be exciting and eventful year – 2012!

MMAYE Poster Contest

As you know, we will start promoting for Youth Productions soon. The designing of posters used to be the responsibility of marketing group members only, but we know there are a lot of people with artistic talent and photo editing skills. This is why we have decided to make the designing of this year’s Youth Productions poster a contest!

   To enter, create a standard A4 sized poster containing:…
    -Title, ex MMAYE’s 2nd Annual Youth Productions
    -Date: May 12th / Location: Mentor College Private School
    -Pictures of actors (must include three main charactors)
    -Short summary or jot points that introduce Youth Productions
    -Short summary or jot points about the plot (no spoilers XP)
    P.S.:Leave a space for sponsor logos and MMAYE’s logo

MMAYE Basketball Tournament Success

MMAYE (Mississauga Mandarin Association Youth Empowerment) hosted a basketball tournament at the Gateway Center on November 25, 2011. Over 50 youth from Mississauga showed up to compete or just to watch the games. Winners Leo Lee, Leo Pan, and Nelson Liu played fiercely and their hard work undoubtedly paid off.

The night began with a preliminary round of games. Ten confident teams of three competed for a spot in the playoffs as they displayed strong perseverance and admirable teamwork. By the end of the night, after a heated four hours of games, the two undefeated teams battled it out on the gymnasium floor. This final round of the tournament had the crowd on its feet, as both teams displayed the determination to win. Enthusiastic cheers came from the audience at the end of the night, as Leo Lee, Leo Pan, and Nelson Liu finally scored the shot that won them first place.

The boys received first prize trophies and tickets to MMAYE’s next upcoming event, Youth Productions. The MMAYE is planning another sports event – a badminton tournament – in February.They organize events that bring youth together and give them the opportunity to take leadership and make a difference in the community.
